Ash Parish Council

Christmas Fantasia 2006

The Christmas Fantasia held on Saturday 2nd December, was officially opened by Councillor Nigel Manning, Chairman of Ash Parish Council at 2.00pm with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

There were many stalls at the fayre selling a variety of Christmas items. Members and Staff of the Parish Council ran a tombola and cake stall together with various children's games. The money raised is to be donated to Ash Friends of Childine and Shawfield Day Centre

At 4.45pm Father Christmas made his way from the Ash Centre to Ash Wharf in his sleigh, accompanied by a number of children riding in the back of the sleigh. Joining the procession were the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Lion, Tinman and Steph a suitably hideous Wicked Witch of the East.

On arriving at Ash Wharf Father Christmas and his entourage joined the crowd gathered at the Wharf singing carols around the Christmas tree, led by the Salvation Army Band and St Peter’s Church Choir. Father Christmas switched on the Christmas tree lights and distributed sweets to the children gathered around.

The festivities ended with mulled wine and mince pies back at the Ash Centre with Councillor Nigel Manning announcing the winners and handing out prizes for the lucky entrance ticket, WI raffle for a teddy bear, name the teddy bear and the South West Thames Kidney Fund Grand Draw.

It was a very successful afternoon enjoyed by all. The Parish Council Members and Staff would like to thank all the local businesses for their kind donations of prizes for the tombola, Party Pants for generously supplying the fancy dress costumes, free of charge, Disco Sales of Farnborough for setting up a PA. system at the Wharf and Vale Furnishers for sponsoring a cherry picker to help erect the lights on the Christmas Tree.
