Friary Guildford Brass Band concert 2014

Saturday 13th December saw a return by the Friary Guildford Brass Band, this year with a very seasonal Christmas Concert.

The Concert was sponsored by the Ash and Blackwater Vally Rotary Club and all proceeds from the concert are to be donated to the Shooting Star Chase Childrens Hospice.

The concert in total raised in the region of 2,000 and Ash Parish Council would like to thank everyone who contributed to this significant amount.

The Friary Guildford Brass Band was once again under Musical Director and Conductor Chris King, played well known seasonal music and carols.

The 1st half of the concert started with Prokofiev's Troika and included popular carols, O Little Town of Bethlehem and Good King Wenceslas both with audience participation. Mention must also be made of the wonderful solo performances by Lauren Straker (Away in a Manger) and Chris Straker (A Troika? Tidy!). The first half concluded with a melody of Christmas music.

The second half of the concert started with the very evocatic Walking with Heros. It also included three audience participation carols Silent Night, The Twelve Day of Christmas and O Come all ye Faithful. The concert finished off with a rendition of Music.

Cllr Nigel Manning then thanked the Band and the audience for coming.
